Can you care for a stoma at home?
Yes. With the right support, stoma care can be safely and comfortably managed at home. If you need extra help with your stoma care, we’re here for you. Our trained carers can assist with routine stoma care, help monitor for complications and offer emotional reassurance – all from the comfort and privacy of your home.
How often does a stoma bag need to be emptied?
This depends on the type of stoma (colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy) and type of bag. General guidance is to empty the stoma bag once it’s half full, or more frequently if needed.
How do you care for the skin around a stoma?
Keeping the skin around your stoma clean is key for protecting against infections. We gently cleanse the area with warm water before patting dry. We can also apply protective products if needed.
What is the main purpose of stoma care?
Stoma care is important for making sure the stoma is functioning properly, that it’s clean and hygienic, and to prevent infection. It generally involves cleaning the stoma, changing the pouch and monitoring the output.
