Live-in Care Vs A Care Home in Berkshire

Live-in care or visiting home care?

Families often compare round-the-clock live-in support with visiting home care. Our Berkshire guide explains suitability, routines and costs side by side.

Live-in Care At Home

Moving to a Care Home

For many families across Berkshire, when they sit down and compare the two, live-in care is not just the more personal option — it is often the more practical one too. Live-in care starts from £2,000 per week with a minimum of 3 days, while our visiting care starts from £38 per hour on weekdays.

My dad was in St Mark’s Hospital in Maidenhead, and we needed to arrange care very quickly so he could be discharged and come home. I called Visiting Angels and spoke to Grace, who was so understanding and said she could come out to do an assessment that same day. She was incredibly helpful and managed to get everything in place without any fuss.

Magda came to introduce Dad to two wonderful ladies, who are both fabulous. They are so caring, and he has really got to know and trust them. It’s lovely that he sees the same two familiar faces rather than lots of different people coming into his home. I am so grateful to the whole team for making a stressful situation so much easier for me.

From the very first phone call, the team at Visiting Angels were really patient and took the time to understand what Mum needed. They helped us get everything arranged quickly, including her assessment at home in Windsor, and matched her with a carer who has turned out to be a really good fit.

Mum’s confidence had really disappeared after her fall. She stopped going out much and didn’t feel comfortable doing things on her own anymore, so it’s been lovely to see the change in her. She’s now enjoying short walks again and even feels confident enough to go into Windsor town with her carer, which she hadn’t been doing at all.

It’s made such a difference to all of us really. Mum feels safe and comfortable, and she genuinely enjoys spending time with her carer. We feel much more reassured knowing she’s in kind and capable hands and would definitely recommend Visiting Angels to any family looking for care and support.

We have been using the services of Visiting Angels to provide 24 hour live in care for our Mum, following a couple of falls and hip operations.
All the carers they have provided have been very kind and gentle with Mum. Sally has been looking after Mum on a regular basis and she not only provides great care but also great company for Mum, when Dad has his head buried in a book or watching sport on TV.
Debbie has also kept in regular contact with Mum and the family making sure that we are happy with the care being provided.

1am on Tuesday and in comes Emily. She’s like a breath of fresh air. We talk and decide what we will do together today. It could be a short walk, tidy the cupboards, weed the patio or paint by numbers. The possibilities are endless. We chat all the time. She’s very easy to be with. She loves to be in the garden. She tells me about her dogs and about Flyball. So you see she’s educating me. We chat about Debbie and her chicks. Our time together is lovely. When it’s time for her to go she always says Tuesdays are her favourite day.. they are mine too. So with a big hug and love she’s off to make someone else happy that’s Emily. And there’s so much more for another day - Bonnie Dolman

My mother in law is living with dementia and was resistant to the idea of carers at first. She has bonded with the carers and built a beautiful relationship. The girls always greet her with warmth and it is so lovely to see the way they support and interact with her.
Thank you Visiting Angels, keep up the good work!

Visiting Angels have allowed my dad to stay at home, where he loves. Their support is a real source of reassurance for us, his family, who are some distance away, as we know someone is keeping an eye on him and will step in if anything is needed.
