ng the businesses featured were Visiting Angels North Surrey owners Chris and Lynn James, who shared how their team actively recruits people in their 50s and 60s into care roles. For them, the qualities that make someone brilliant at care, like reliability, communication, life experience, and the ability to build a genuine relationship with a client, often come with age and experience, not despite it.
That approach has paid off. After attending a job fair for over-50s in 2022, the team recruited four people they met there. All four are still working with Visiting Angels North Surrey today.
It’s an especially fitting story for home care, where the relationship between caregiver and client is central to the support we provide. The confidence to walk into someone’s home, strike up a conversation and build trust can matter just as much as formal care experience.
Skills can be taught. Warmth, reliability and the ability to connect with people can’t, and that’s exactly what Chris, Lynn and the North Surrey team are helping bring to a national audience.
