5 TIPS TO KEEP YOU WARM THIS WINTER
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is urging people to stay warm and watch out for individuals who are most vulnerable to the effects of the cold weather since low temperatures and potentially severe night-time frosts are predicted for all of England starting on Wednesday.
Here are some tips to help you stay warm!!
1. Layer UP
The best way to stay warm is to dress up in multiple layers instead of just one heavy piece of clothing. Base layers, such as thermal vests or long-sleeved tops, are affordable and can help trap heat. Stay covered, and you’ll stay warm.
2. Keep Your Hands and Feet Warm
You can control your body temperature by keeping your extremities warm. Wearing thick socks, a woolly hat and gloves will help you achieve this. If you’re sitting down, a shawl or blanket will help keep you warm.
3. Stay Active
Try to be as active as you can to improve your circulation. You can stay warm by engaging in light exercise. Stretching can help older adults to become more flexible and mobile and warm.
4. Keep Draughts Out and Heat In
Try to seal off any draughty spots in your house such as the spaces around your window frames keyholes and beneath doors. To keep your home warm in the winter, you can seal the windows and doors that are not in use with plastic insulation kits. If you open the curtains on the sunny side of your house during the day, the sun’s bright light will help warm your home just remember to close them early in the evening.
5. Make Warm Dishes and Drinks
Keep yourself warm by regularly consuming hot beverages and meals like porridge, soups, and stews. During winter, it is best to eat foods that take longer to digest because the body gets warm during digestion. Hot tea or coffee, cider, and broth are all delicious ways to feel warm.
