Why choose Visiting Angels North Shropshire for home care support?

Finding the right support for yourself or a loved one is a huge decision and takes lots of research and consideration – and rightly so! In fact, it’s one of the most important decisions that is ever made. Matching services with the personal touch to provide dedicated, tailored support that we, as a team, can deliver is our passion.

We are a team of home carers, dedicated to providing a high level of service of care at home. We aim to work closely with our clients, their families, health professionals and our Angels as one big team to ensure our clients remain happy in their own homes.

Our home care service promotes independence, dignity, choice, compassion and empathy along with the beliefs and values of each Client. Our Angels are visitors into your home, so it is important to get the right match, we take in to account the hobbies and interests of the Angel to match the client and elderly care companionship shines through in every visit that we do.

How can Visiting Angels North Shropshire help you with care at home?

Our Angels provide support to Clients in their own homes with visits of one hour or more. The times and days are agreed with you and our Angels will visit as agreed. The one-hour visit allows the Angel to have sufficient time to complete tasks without rushing the Client and the Client has the time and support they need at a pace to suit them. This also allows the Angel and Client to build a professional relationship together and a strong bond, and companionship often blooms which helps to reduce social isolation. Our Angels will be a friendly face, visiting to assist with support where needed.

Our Angels can support with tasks such as:

• Home help/cleaning tasks (mopping, dusting, hoovering, changing of beds, laundry, ironing etc.).

• Elderly companionship care; For a general chat or assist and encourage with activities (puzzles/jigsaws/painting, using technology, baking, gardening etc.)

• Socialisation visits in the community by car/transport for shopping, appointments to clinics and health professionals, escorts to hairdressers, barbers, beauticians etc. along with days out to places of interest and attending activities/clubs

• Meal plan and prepare, cook and serve fresh meals (not just a microwave meal)

• Assist with eating and drinking

• Assist/prompt with medication (including ordering prescriptions and collection)

• Shopping for grocery items or personal items such as shoes and clothing (escorted or shopping on your behalf)

• Support and/or guidance with personal care – including, oral care, shaving, washing hair and blow drying/styling, nail care (painting and cleaning), showering/bathing, washing and dressing, assisting with incontinent aids.

• Pet care

Please remember we are here to support the needs of the individual and support will be tailored to the one individual.

How can I get support?

If you would like to talk to us about one of our home carers, or any other kind of support, please telephone the office 01691 888558 or send an enquiry through our contact page. A member of the office team will come to your home and visit you at a convenient time and day and explain about our services and answer any questions that you may have. You may want to have a friend or relative with you – we like to encourage this so that you feel supported and comfortable. You can tell us about your likes and dislikes and what is important to you and how you would like to be supported. We ask for information about you, such as your health, your medication, your mobility, and your life story and background and any hobbies and interests you have because this helps us with matching you to an Angel. Let us find a home carer for you.

How many visits do I need?

This is completely up to you to decide. There is no minimum requirement to have a service with us – it is all about your needs and choices and what helps you to remain happy in your own home. This may be from as little as 1 hour a week through to 24 hour care. The choice is yours.

What is an Angel?

Our Angels are our team of home carers. They love caring for our Clients in their own homes and have their best interests at heart. They understand the need for dignity, choice and compassion and provide a high standard of care. They do a dedicated job and go above and beyond to ensure our Clients remain supported, as independent as possible, and safe at home.

Our Angels do not wear a uniform but they are all smartly dressed. If we escort you to the shops or an appointment, our Angels do not look like a home carer support; they often look like a granddaughter, daughter, relative, or friend who are assisting you which allows much more dignity.

All our Angels undergo a thorough profile check along with a stringent recruitment process before they attend full training. They are also DBS checked and references are provided and checked.

We are carer centric which means our Angels are always at the heart of our team and business. They are respected and valued and are not just a number to us – we make time to know each one of them personally, and each one is welcomed into our working VANS family and encouraged to develop their pathway in care. We run a reward program (Angel of the Month and Angel of the Year) where the nominated Angels are rewarded and recognised for their dedication. In return they are appreciated with team kindness and gifts.

We provide our Angels with guaranteed contracted hours after probation. They are also paid for attending team meetings and all training for their development so they can succeed in delivering a high level of care. We also offer the opportunity of career progression within the business. Caring for our Angels means we retain our staff and strong bonds are formed with our Clients. After all, if we want to be outstanding in the care we give to our Clients, we need to be outstanding in the care we give to our team too!

At the office, the kettle is always on boil and there is always a slice of cake (or other goodies) to be found (sometimes handmade) and we welcome all visitors to the office which includes Clients and Angels!

Just thanking you both for the care and consideration you gave my uncle this morning, you were fantastic.  Never thought I would see the day when he would be happy having carers in his house, but he is looking forward to it now, thank you

Some absolutely key areas in which Visiting Angels achieve excellence:

  • Reliability: Always on time ( or I get notified)
  • Consistency : They understand the importance of routine
  • Empathy: They get it!

Having understand all the aspects of the care industry over many years, I am well versed in the potential issues when employing additional support. VA removes 90% of those problems and issues. Their attention to detail is excellent, communication is excellent and the calibre of the staff is impressive.

They demonstrate an understanding of the needs of my mother and of the rest of my family ( from whom they are lifting some responsibility), and that only comes from empathy, and  something that disappointingly you don’t always find in a carer- genuine care.

Many other organizations would do well to pay close attention to how VA operates.

HP, Client's Son

Your care is exceptional. My Uncle is so happy . I never thought I would see the day . Thank you for all you do!

-RR

My Angels are wonderful, particularly little Kayley.

Kayley does everything I ask, they all do, but she is particularly special. Its like having a little family.

E.T

Thank you so much all of you and Jade for going that extra mile. Fabulous to see a cheeky smile on her face again.

I wanted to thank you for a very easy start to a new regime for mum. Your carers have been excellent – a really good team with a very efficient process- I’m genuinely impressed!

Client's son- VP

I have been massively impressed by Visiting Angels North Shropshire’s work ethic and wish that all care providers offered the same dignity and standards.  I will definitely be recommending Visiting Angels North Shropshire to anyone who might need your services

Thank you for all your support on Thursday , despite a small attendance it was still lovely . Jade was lovely and fitted in nicely in the group it would be great to see her again

Made my day, you are so kind and caring and I cannot wait to start with you, god bless you all – you really are true angels!

-PB

Simply lovely, Thank you all so much for everything you have done for mum. Getting her back in garden- she keeps commenting on her seedlings and reading the research you did for her during her time at Goya as a young woman, talking about her old boss- the creator of the Goya perfume. Just Cant thank you enough.

So good to see mum smiling! You have made such a positive difference in a very short time. The care you provide to mum is wonderful.

Thank you so much

I have nothing but praise for Visiting Angels – such a caring team of people, always pleasant, never in a hurry and nothing is too much trouble!  They certainly go the extra mile and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

The most extraordinary group of caring and compassionate people I have ever met. Visiting angels took over care for my mum in the final stages of her life and looked after her with such care, passion and professionalism that my few words here can’t do enough justice. They ensured mum’s dignity at all stages and when times were tough they supported the family. If you are reading this, don’t hesitate, give them a call. Thank you to all the Angels I was fortunate enough to meet.

Research by Age UK shows that of the 3.6 million older people who live alone in the UK, 1.9 million often feel ‘ignored or invisible’. It also reveals that loneliness can be as harmful for health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

Meet The Team

Mark Goodall- Director

I come from Essex but have strong family roots with Oswestry. I come from a logistics and management background but have worked varied roles throughout my life. Now, I am finding myself back in my mother’s hometown of Oswestry, amongst many family members, which has taken me back to my good old childhood days. My fond memories remind me that I have spent many years in Oswestry on long family holidays with my mother, father, brother, grandparents and cousins and I have such great memories of the area with sun filled day trips to outstanding places of nature and beauty.

The care experience is a new journey for me. I have strong family values and a caring nature and I have the same values and aims as Nicky – to provide an outstanding service and to be carer centric and place the Angels at the heart of what we do. I understand about delivering a high quality of service to our Clients and to encourage people to make choices in the care they receive. I also understand how important it is to feel valued as an Angel. It is a tough job and I do not feel that this is always recognised in the social care industry. I am proud of our team and what they do. I aim to use my skills to build strong relationships with our Angels and clients.

Now I have come back to the local community to integrate and get the chance to support the team in the beautiful Shropshire countryside again – what could be better than delivering a personal service with the chance to help the local community?

Nicky Goodall- Director

My background brings me from Essex to Shropshire. After having my children and working as a PA in London, I found myself falling into the world of care. Later in life, I was on the pathway to management within a private service, changing the system for how care was delivered and my journey into the care world began!  I have worked for two leading companies in the care sector as a trainer, recruiter and field supervisor and then later as Registered Manager.

I have seen first hand, some of the issues faced within working for the home care services, I have been there and worked the roles! Staff are often under-valued and under-paid and clients have a high turn over of staff and no trust because of this.

Our vision is very different at Visiting Angels and makes us carer centric! One of the most important values we have is that we recognise the worth of our Angels – they are important to us, they are very needed in the community and are hardworking and do a very tough dedicated job! I support our staff to deliver care in the local community and I certainly do not mind rolling my sleeves up to make sure the Angels and clients are supported; you may see me in the community caring – that’s what we do – we support each other and work as a team.

My journey and dedication to the care service has landed me in one of the most beautiful parts of the world where I am looking forward to getting to know the community, making a difference, and spreading our Visiting Angels love and service to Angels and Clients.

Lou Cotton- Registered Manager

I am Lou Cotton and I am thrilled to be joining the VANS team. I am married to my husband Chris and I am Mum of 3 beautiful boys. I am naturally an outgoing chatty person with a good sense of humour, I do like a good giggle.
My work in the care sector has been varied. I have been a CQC registered manager in a busy Shared Lives Service across the Midlands region and I have also ran a domiciliary care service in Telford more recently. I have a high level of energy and an immense drive to make a real difference in people’s lives be it service users, their families and members of the team. I want to help people live the best life possible and if I can help people be the best versions of themselves along the way too I know I have done a great job.

Faye Joy – Trainer

I am a widowed Mother of 3 beautiful daughters, who I adore. My care experience was nursing my Husband for 10 years until he passed away in 2017 of cancer. I remember how lonely that felt and how hard it was , from wife to carer . I have always enjoyed and taken pride In helping people and believe i found my calling when I came across Visiting Angel .

With my history I truly understand how hard it can be for my clients and their Families ,I am honoured to be apart of their lives and to be able to just ease some of their life hurdles and bring a few smiles along the way.

Bethany Holmes Davies – Coordinator

I live in the local area and married with 3 wonderful children. I believe I am bubbly person with a kind heart. I have worked in the care sector now for 8 years. My main goal is to ensure that every individual that I care for is treated with respect and dignity and ensuring I make a difference.

Robyn Peters – Senior Caregiver

I am a mum to two beautiful children and I have worked in domiciliary and complex care for a few years. I’m always looking to help and reach out to as many people as I can and strive to improve there quality of life.

Charlie Rogers- Business admin Apprentice

My name is Charlie, I’m 17 and from Oswestry. I studied health and social care at school. I mainly enjoy listening to music, people/bands such as Oasis, Stone Roses, Calvin Harris and Stereophonics. However, I am also qualified as a Nail Technician and enjoy doing this in my spare time. I’m quite easy to get on with and have a laugh with, I have a very dry sense of humour, but also love working.

Jade Thomas

I am Jade Thomas and have always lived in the local area. I live with my husband Dave, stepdaughter and two crazy dogs!

Family and friends are very important to me and when I am not at work, you will usually find me spending time with them – or walking the dogs.

I found my passion for caring at a young age (16) and began my career in the health and social care sector supporting young people with special education needs and disabilities.

I am excited to join the VANS team and felt it was the right fit for me from my first meeting with them.

The company’s and team’s values align with my own strong desire to help others and enrich their lives

Buddy – The Actual Boss

My name is Buddy, I am old (born 2009), I bark a lot (ask the neighbours ) and like to chase the birds. I dislike other dogs so I do not have many friends. I sleep a lot, at least 6 hours a day and you can always find me curled up in my bed either in the office or in the lounge at home. I am also very fussy and I do not like dog food; I like to have what mum and dad are having for dinner – beef stew with a few bits of biscuit is my favourite.

“Thank for literally being “visiting angels” to dad. Without you his life would not have that magic touch you brought to him. You will be treasured for your work.”

John

Rarely do company names reflect their activities, yours most certainly does.

From all our dealings with you and your staff, you have continually exceeded our expectations.

From my very first call to you on 25th of July with a “Yes of course we can help” to the end of your caring, during which time you and your staff have been wonderful.

Verna could be a very forceful and determineed woman. She was always treated with great Dignity, kindness, understanding and humour.

I must make a special mention regarding Alex, she really is an Angel with a capital ‘A’. Her treatment of Vern a was exemplary as well as making both my wife and myself more at ease with Verna’s situation. When mother was really poorly and I was unable to be with her, She even popped her head around the corner to make sure she was ok.

Nothing seemed too much trouble to her to make sure that Verna was happy and as comfortable as possible.

The carer profession cannot be the easiest, but you and your staff have continually shown the respect anyone would like their family member to receive.

G. Roberts

“I want to thank you for sending me such a wonderful Angel to help me during my recuperation. I always felt safe and comfortable when she was here.”
