How our dementia care can help

Every person with dementia is different, so support is built around their routines, preferences and history.
Depending on the care plan, our caregivers can help with:

Our approach to dementia care

Our caregivers receive dementia training, including how dementia can affect communication, how behaviour may change, and how to respond calmly when someone becomes distressed. We understand that behaviour is often a form of communication. Rather than simply reacting to it, we try to understand what might be behind it, whether that is pain, hunger, tiredness, confusion or simply feeling unsettled, and respond in a way that brings comfort.
Where someone experiences significant distress, or behaviour that may present a risk, we carefully assess whether their needs can be safely met at home, and work alongside the appropriate professionals, such as GPs, specialist nurses and occupational therapists.

Overnight and 24-hour dementia care

Dementia can make evenings and nights especially difficult, with confusion, restlessness or waking in the night. We provide overnight care, so someone is there to offer reassurance and help when it is needed most.
When someone needs support around the clock, we provide 24-hour dementia care at home. Care is shared between a small, consistent team of caregivers working in shifts, for example three caregivers each covering eight hours, so your loved one always has someone fresh, alert and attentive by their side.
Every family's situation is different, so we will talk through what would work best for you, whether that is 24-hour care, overnight support or regular visits during the day, and adjust it as needs change.

Arranging dementia care in Leeds & Wakefield

We start with a conversation with you and your family about your loved one: their routines, their likes and dislikes, their history and what matters most to them. That helps us understand the person, not just their diagnosis.
After an individual care consultation, we agree a care plan and carefully match caregivers, then review the plan as needs change over time. Care can start small, such as a few visits a week, and increase if and when it is needed.
Many people with dementia also benefit from regular medication support and companionship.
