In this video by José Rodríguez, Managing Director of Visiting Angels Barnet & Enfield, he explains why you should avoid hospital for your loved one if at all possible, and gives you lifesaving tips on what to do if your loved one has to go to hospital.
To be clear: He is not suggesting that you ignore professional medical advice! Instead, he wanted to emphasise that, owing to the frailty of the elderly, hospital stays can be dangerous for them. To minimise the risk, anticipate and learn from previous reasons for hospitalisation (e.g: UTIs, dehydration, etc). Aim to discharge them as soon as feasible. These efforts will help reduce prolonged illnesses and improve their quality of life, while also reducing your stress levels as the caregiver.
