According to The State of the Adult Social Care Sector and Workforce 2023, a report by Skills for Care, the sector employed more than 1.5 million people in 2023, with over 150,000 vacancies in a wide range of role types and location. And the ageing population is growing demand.
According to figures from NHS England, in 2022-23, 835,335 people received long-term care while local authorities received more than two million requests for adult social care support.
Gross current expenditure on adult social care by local authorities last year was £23.7 billion and the government is committed to funding the recruitment of more care workers.
