At Visiting Angels, we often say that outstanding care is about far more than helping with daily tasks.
It is about kindness.
It is about trust.
And above all, it is about building genuine relationships.
Every so often, we receive feedback from families that perfectly captures what great care looks like. Recently, one such message left our whole team smiling and confirmed exactly why our caregiver, Martha, was chosen as our latest Values Champion.
What Is the Values Champion Award?
The Values Champion Award recognises caregivers who consistently live the values that define Visiting Angels.
It is not based on how long someone has worked with us or how many visits they complete. It celebrates the difference they make to people’s lives through compassion, professionalism, reliability and genuine care.
Martha embodies those qualities every single day.
A Familiar Face That Brought Immediate Reassurance
One morning, our client’s family faced an important hospital appointment. Understandably, they were anxious about how stressful the day might be for their father.
Martha adjusted her schedule and arrived earlier than usual to help prepare him.
His son later wrote:
“It helped settle Dad no end and made the hospital visit a lot less stressful for him.”
Sometimes the smallest gestures make the biggest difference.
A Moment the Family Will Never Forget
The family’s most memorable experience happened a few days earlier.
The client’s son heard noise coming from the bathroom and found his father standing with a towel in his hand, confused and unable to explain what he wanted.
He helped his father back into the living room, but he remained distressed and unable to communicate.
Then Martha arrived.
She simply greeted him with a warm “Good morning” and asked how he was.
Everything changed.
The client immediately relaxed and calmly explained that he needed the toilet.
His son quietly stepped back, knowing his father felt safe.
Later, he shared the words that meant so much to our team:
“Seeing how relaxed Dad is in her presence was a joy.”
For anyone supporting a loved one living with dementia, those words speak volumes.
Relationships Matter
This story reminds us why continuity of care is so important.
People living with dementia often find comfort in familiar faces, familiar routines and trusted relationships.
Over time, caregivers come to understand not only practical needs, but also how someone communicates, what reassures them and how to help them feel secure during moments of confusion.
That relationship cannot be built overnight.
It grows visit after visit, conversation after conversation, until a caregiver becomes someone the client genuinely trusts.
Peace of Mind for the Whole Family
As the family prepared for an exciting new chapter and their move to France, they had one final message for us.
“We know Dad is in the best hands possible.”
Those words mean everything to our team.
Families place enormous trust in us when they choose Visiting Angels, and hearing that they can move hundreds of miles away with confidence that their loved one is safe is the greatest compliment we could receive.
Congratulations, Martha
Receiving our Values Champion Award is recognition of something we already knew.

Martha doesn’t simply provide care.
She builds relationships.
She creates reassurance.
She brings calm during difficult moments.
Most importantly, she helps people feel safe, respected and valued in their own home.
Congratulations, Martha, and thank you for living the values that make Visiting Angels so special.
We are incredibly proud to have you as part of our team.
If you’re looking for home care that prioritises familiar faces, continuity and genuine relationships, we’d love to tell you more about how Visiting Angels supports older people to live independently at home.
Because great care isn’t just about what we do.
It’s about how we make people feel.
