Did you know?
Every family is likely to be affected by long term care matters at some point. Studies have shown, a loved one in every family above the age of 70 years old, will require long term care.
It is without a doubt, as we age we slowly become more dependent on those around us. Its a transition no one is ready for, that’s why here at Visiting Angels, Essex South West, we believe in making you feel whole and great again.
We believe it is important that you are informed as much as possible about what should (and shouldn’t) happen at the point when you or your elderly loved one needs care. They should feel empowered, understood, heard and supported. Having carers can be challenging for some and asking for help can be very dauting.
Everyone should have the right care by the right people, no matter the circumstances.
What is the NHS doing?
In 2020, the New Age UK analysis found that, about 700,000 requests made by a service user or on the behalf of a loved one for formal care and support, which is equivalent to 51% of all requests, has resulted in them not receiving formal care services.(AGE UK 2020)
This bring us back to the question, Are The Elderly Being Denied Care? 700,000 people is a large number. It is no secret Covid-19 made people shy away from having carers in their home, but as society is now gradually socialising more, it is hoped that things should regulate more efficiently now.
Further studies from Nuffield NHS, they found that:
“Social care services in England face longstanding pressures. With consistent underfunding, access to publicly funded care for older adults is now limited to those with the lowest means and highest needs.
Provision across the country has become fragile and fragmented, and workforce shortages limit the supply of care.”
It is evident, no matter the type of care needed, it will be based on how ill you are and how financially dependent you are.
To answer the longstanding question of “Are The Elderly Being Denied Care?”, yes, but to an extend hence why many are now seeking private care to meet their needs.
